What's the Point of buying a new iPhone if it looks exactly like the old one?

What's the point in buying a new iPhone if it looks exactly like the old one? Well once you start using one you'll know. The speed! The speed of the new iPhone 3GS will amaze you.

There's a reason why Apple Named their new phone the iPhone 3GS, that "S" stands for speed. Speed is the central upgrade here, and is probably the biggest reason to upgrade to the 3GS from the 3G. And if your new to AT&T the extra $100 to get the 3GS instead of the 3G is definitely a no brainer.

The 3GS being mainly a performance upgrade without many new features may be a little weird to most, since we usually look at the features, and not the specs when we're evaluating cellphones. Apple has really decided to focus on the performance of their products instead of adding a load of new features, Snow Leopard being a great example of that. I believe Apple is looking forward, hardware has change dramatically in the last 5 years and Apple is trying to get a head start on the competition by rewriting now and leaving out the features for when they've got everything under control, maximizing CPU usage etc.

Back to the iPhone, Is a faster phone a necessary upgrade for you? The iPhone 3GS is the best all-around smartphone available. If you're looking for a refined, augmented version of what you already know, that runs all the tens of thousands of apps from the App Sore faster and more fluidly, then definitely upgrade. I glad I did.
